Ejner Jensen is ninety-three years old and lives alone
in a fourth-floor walkup in Manhattan. Since meeting on the street several
years ago, we have become intimate friends. The collaborative portraits
of Ejner and his space are records of our time together; the images reference
his age, perseverance, and impermanence. They are part of an ongoing project
about Ejner’s life.
“Let us recognize ourselves in this old man or in that old woman.
It must be done if we are to take upon ourselves the entirety of our human
state.”
- Simone de Beauvoir, The Coming of Age.
