The Habitation and Hibernation of Memory

Home is a far more complex concept than a street address of the physical structure that houses our bodies and our possessions, for it is one of the most significant foundations that reign supreme in our psyche. I photograph the interiors of the homes of family and friends to investigate, not only how we live and what we live with, but how our homes reflect our experiences and memories. My images represent facets of my observation of, and response to the people I know who surround themselves with things they have gathered and arranged to bring a sense of importance and comfort in order to create refuge from
the precarious world that surrounds them. Our homes know us for who we really are, but they cannot conventionally communicate to others what they see, hear or smell. I attempt to take on the role of the home by observing the home, the way it observes us, by photographing it.
