On the Seen

My work is an exploration of the streets of New York City as Fashion. The photographs take the everyday person, elevating them to the exotic, through use of techniques that I learned through years of work in the fashion industry as both photographer and retoucher. The images are meditations on the concentration of media images (both advertising and fashion,) that bombard people and how they influence our ways of seeing and being seen. Having grown up in the Midwest, where your house and car are the first presentation of self, I noticed that this phenomenon is especially manifest in major cities and noticeably affects how the city’s inhabitants present themselves to the world. The photographs are titled as “Scenes” and numbered in reference to the order in which they were photographed.
