Eyeshot

Eyeshot is a single-channel videotape which subjectively explores militarism and war. During my uncle's three tours in the Vietnam War, he shot 8mm film footage and 35mm slides which he only recently uncovered. He has kept letters, cameras, medals and other objects from his US Army career and his membership in the Vermont National Guard. I use these things to provoke reactions and to see how the archive speaks in the present by illuminating my uncle's past military experiences. By looking at my uncle's objects and recording direct conversations with him, I am instigating a subjective investigation into the nature of fighting in war and the military-mindset which this experience generates.
