Family Album

A testament to my mixed cultural background, and a life split between Asia, Europe and the US, Family Album is a series of portraits of my family and friends, captured in their homes across the world. The diversity of individuals, and the complexity of how we define our relationships to each other, reflects our unique historical moment where the notion of what constitutes family is shifting. Because of the vast and varied individuals that make up my collective, there is never a family occasion where they are all present. This volume, on the other hand, is the only such representation that exists. I have archived my experience of this network in the form of a book, to give my family an awareness of their diversity and, in a broader sense, articulate a global phenomenon. Family Album: Volume I is the first installation of an ongoing project containing 100 photographs taken in the past two years.
