Backstage at the Pussycat Lounge
BACKSTAGE AT THE PUSSYCAT LOUNGE, feather boas hang
from pot hooks and scotch tape holds the night’s list of acts to
the refrigerator door. The dressing room is a cramped kitchen, and in
that tight space the night’s performers apply eye shadow and pasties
amid the tumult of soup cans and sauté pans. Despite the incongruity
of their surroundings, the dancers—World Famous * BOB, * Julie Atlas
Muz, Fritzy Collins, Miss Saturn—attend to the rituals of costume
preparation with all the intensity of Broadway stars. Here, under the
harsh kitchen lights, they rehearse their lines and their movements. What
dreams are they pursuing? What brought them here, to this chaotic kitchen
on this night?
“Pack all of your dreams into your prettiest dress and follow it
to a city where they can come true”
—Burlesque Star, The World Famous * BOB *
